Some Initial Questions
The natural world is a thing that no one could not see, we are in it every day and everyone has a relationship with it. It is not something you would think about in every day to day life but i have thought about this. My relationship with the natural world is with the water, you can get such amazing photographs and has so much life within it. To see landscapes I go to many different areas such as; beaches, parks, rivers, ect. I believe nature has a huge part to play in our world, and people like to take photos like this to show the truth and the beauty of the worlds nature. Not a lot of people take notice of nature so they are shown through photos. Photos can have a major impact on someone. Seeing two photos such as a photo of land that hasn't been touched and a photo of land that has been touched. This could make someone want to protect the land that still has beauty and hasn't been touched.
What Is a Landscape Picture?
When I hear the word landscape, I see in my minds eye the sky and a sunset with all different colours for example; purple, pink yellow, red. I can also see an ocean where the waves are chaotic and it looks windy. I did a search on google to see what comes up when you search the landscape. When I searched this it came up with sunsets, deserts, buildings, hills, rivers and many other views. For me, my ideal landscape would be with a lake hills in the back ground and the sunset sitting behind it with the beaming sun that is red. The landscape I see daily is at about eight O’clock in the evening outside my bedroom window with the trees, the sunset and the fields that lay in-front of the trees.

I feel this photo-shoot went very well today, I was excited to take photos of landscapes as so far it is my favourite type of photography.
|
I feel this piece is good however I want to edit some of the photos as some of them are a little bit dull and could use some colour. Next time I want to take some with more buildings in them.

Homework
WWW:I got many photos in different areas which helped me get a range of different looks. I used my phone for this task and zoomed in on some things/ areas to fit certain objects in. Some of these photos are outside my house or my Nan's or at the park, but the ones of the moon and the stars is through a telescope. It was about ten o’clock at night and

Slide Evaluation
Through out watching videos and researching Dafna Talmor I have got many ideas from looking through her work. I have experimented and tried to make the type of creative, unusual, negatives. from her video i got:
- No limitations
- Overwhelming
- Endless possibilities
- Locations
- Reconstruction get stripped and become only a place that makes sense in a photographic sense
- Conscious of the way it comes out
- A fixed idealised positon
- Embedded more than one photo in a frame
- A disorientate image
- Auto biographical
- Eautopian scene/ setting
- Where she couldn’t get a perfect shot
- Limited by the photographic frame

The Idea Of Landscape
- The photographer has chosen to get the mountain range but has also included a pathway. The path way looks like it has been deserted and looks like a pathway you would see in a film of cow boys, this could relate to the other photo which looks like a different area but has a man ridding a horse. I think they have excluded a part of this area that has people living and working there.
- You have a lot of photographers that focus on landscape photography. These photographers sometimes take photos of places that mean something to them, this could be a place where the photographer grew up or a place that reminds them of their childhood.
- The vantage point that the photographer has taken these photos is a straight and low point. These photos are taken at a low vantage point because it seems very close to the floor.
- In these photos you could say you are close to the landscape but also could say far away. The photos are very low which makes it seem closer but the photos seem to stretch out and make it seem far away.
- I think the photographer had the idea to create a memory of what happened that day. They may not have anyone else understand the meaning but she might.
Bad Landcapes
Todays task was to take bad photos, i found this fun and relaxing. This task was fun to do because it was gave me a chance to take a breather with the photos I take. It did not feel like I had the pressure on my self and I did not feel like i had to aim for perfection, I could just go and take some photos that claim to be bad. The photos look ok they are not my best but they are what i aimed for.
Constructed Landscapes experiment
This is the work I have done today, we had to reconstruct and cut parts out of one of our photos we have taken. I chose this photo and decided to cut out the building and the main fence in the background. When i finished this section of the task I went outside and had Sophie hold my photo in the air so I could take the photos with the new background behind the cut out photo. I am happy with my last few pictures these looked better because I had put acatape on the back of the photo to stop it from moving so much in the wind. I would like to do this again so that i have the acotape on the back for the whole time because this makes the photos much better.
Dionne Lee's Constructed Landscapes
In this video Dionne Lee is creating different collages. This short film becomes an example of constructed landscapes by using the landscapes from a magazine. She does not just try a few things and then stick it down, she puts them together and then relooks at them. Dionne takes a look at the photos by taking a step back a then moves a few things around. Dionne has taken different pieces of photography from magazines. I liked it because she tried many times and kept overlooking it and then takes it away and starts with new photos. It is different to other landscapes because they are blended together and there is many landscapes blended in to one. I think the artist may like the idea and look off landscape photos however I do not think she likes to take them herself. I am led to believe this because she has used other artists work and not gone out and taken her own. Within watching this video I see her use scissors, I believe she used scissors in such a little amount of times because she wanted most of the tears to be jagged and to see there was altercations to the work she has created.
My first response to Dionne's Lee:
Within this task i had to use photos from a book that another photographer had taken. I have been able to fold, cut, decide, change. I enjoyed this task, because I got to be creative and use my mind to create a different, unusual photos. Although next time I will try to take the pictures with out lines ant the sight of the table in to correct this i am going to put my pictures in the app photos and edit them to look brighter and crop the sides out. I am only going to edit a selection of these photos because some of them are ok.

These are some videos of me creating my collages and you can see in the videos that i change my mind and play about with the way i place the photos.
Bill Armstrong
Bill is 70 years old and grew up in Concord, Massachusetts. He was born in 1952. Bill has been working on his infinity series for over 15 years, all of his work is homemade and shows his determination to his work. He is now worth ruffly 1.22 million dollars by doing homemade photography.
Bill Armstrong has done many different types of photography. The work of his that I am focusing on is blurry landscape photography, these photographs he has taken are purposely taken blurry. In this type of photography he focuses on the lighting. Bill's work that he had done in the earlier stages, he used framing to transform images hidden in plain sight into illusionistic images. His infinity series used a blur, or a negative depth of field, to create an ephemeral (lasting a very short time) parallel universe.
Blurry Landscape photos
These photos I had taken. My task was to go out and take photos of a landscape but it had to be out of focus, this seems like a weird thing to do but it is a way to experiment and see how people look at it. To do this task I used my iPhone, i went on the app camera. I put my finger in-front of the camera and hold my other finger on the screen so it focused on my finger. You will know when to take your finger off the screen when it comes up with 'AE/AF LOCK'. When you remove your finger from in-front of the camera it will be unfocused and you can take the blurred photos you wish to.
These are my previous photos. I have added a filter on them by using the app photos, i presses the edit button and then the filter button that comes up i used a various amount of filters. For example: 'mono', 'vivid', 'dramatic', and many more. Below is the different filters you can add to the photos you can make.
Ray Metzker's- Pictus Interruptus
Ray has taken these photos and they are part of his 1976 and 1981 'Pictus Interrupts', he has taken photos of landscapes and put objects in front of the camera. He does this with his photos in this collection. He says that "it becomes clearer...that I am looking for the unknown which in fact disturbs, is foreign in subject but hauntingly right for the picture, the workings of which seem inexplicable, at the very least, a surprise." He claims he is just experimental and wants to show a different perspective of photography. The fourth photo is my favirote because it is confusing and you can see a face next to what we asume as a curb. I think this is a puddle and is the reflection.
Pictus Interrupts- Response One
These are my photos I took today. I am quite happy with my work and think it is very colourful and creative. I wanted to try out and show my inspiration from Ray's work. I feel these are similar but maybe next time I should take some in black+white.
Edited Response One
I feel this is better because i have edited them to black and white. I decided to do this because I was inspired by Metzker's work and most. of his work is in black and white so I tried it my self.
Inverting
I choose this photo and wanted to put it on the projector, before putting the photo on the projector I decided I wanted to inert my photo first.
This is a screen shot of how I did this. I went on the app photoshop and inverted my photo this is a short and simple exercise. After this I put my photo on the projector and decided my next step.
Music and editing
Here i found the sound for my video. I went on this app online that is called free sound, i searched up calm city noises. I listened to a lot of different sounds and tried them along with my video but this sound was the best sound for me and my video. I added this sound to my SECOND video and watched it play I felt it went along really nicely with my video.
First video
My first edited video. I edited this and did not add the music to this one. I decided to split my video I put a mirrored affect on and then turned the left side upside down I feel like this was a cool effect and really made my work a lot better.
My finished video
'Surprise Me!'
For this task i had to take a series of constructed landscapes that have been inspired by all the work in the topic constructed landscapes. I want to create a huge pack of photos that have all different styles that I have used throughout. For example; sunsets, blurred, blocked.

Minimalist Landscapes: What Remains
In these pice's of art work there is landscapes but not fully there. These two artists have taken landscapes and cut shapes and made a landscape. In both of them I can see a tree but there is nothing else in Barros work, in Nielsen's work there is some tools on the side. What I find surprising about there work is they have very little detail but are still very interesting to look at. I find Liz's work is better because it is brighter and has a bit more in it. I would like to create one inspired by LIz.
|
My Response
This is my work that has been inspired by Liz. I think it is very similar to her work I wanted to have the white paper and then the shapes in black. I think I did well and I am happy with the results. In some ways it is similar because in some parts there is slimmer pieces of black and other parts are quite thick.

For this one I wanted to go in the dark room. I took my photo above and used photographic paper on top of it under the enlarged. I left it under the enlarger for ten seconds, the next step was to quickly put it in the developer liquid for one minute. After this we put it the next tray of liquid containing stop liquid this prevents the photo from getting to dark. Thirdly, after the five seconds in the stop we pick it up with the tweezers and put it in the fix. We leave the photo in this tray of liquid for five minutes this gives it its last bit of liquid. Lastly, I took it out of the liquid and hung it on the washing line with a washing clip for as long as possible to dry. I was pleased with this outcome because it is quite interesting and has detail next time I would like some more detail.
|
This was my second attempt, with this one all of the steps were the same except for the development stage. For this stage i took it away from the enlarger and placed it on the side. After this I had a jug of development liquid I used sponges, paint brushes and many other things to develop the photo. I did this quite a bit and then created this. I am not too happy with the outcome of this photo because I feel I could have used less developer which would have created more of a variety of tones. I believe this would have been more interesting.

A Personal Response
'For each installation the title reflects the number of hits I get searching “sunset” on Flickr at the time of installation– for example the first search resulted in 541,795 Suns from Sunsets from Flickr (Partial) 01/23/06 in 2006.'
Penelope got these photos from online she combined other peoples sunset photographs by searching online and finding them. |

Component 1, Final Evaluation
During the creation of my final piece, I changed my mind many times, I found artists that I could connect with on a personal level, look up to and appreciate, admire their work. For example, Penelope Umbrico and Keld Helmer-Petersen.
For instance, Penelope Umbricos' flickr sunset collages helped me to want to create a collage/ a collection. Penelope orchestrated other people's work and photos to which she demonstrates how many people are trying to take the perfect photo. I have done mine in more of a physique way. Meaning, I put them in a zine and made them from my personal photos compared to using other people's photos.
I was also interested in Kelds' work but mainly his collection "The Black Serial". This series contains three books. The three books are all to do with black and white and unusual landscapes/ objects and many more. In order to create various amounts of work, influenced and created by both artists, I began picking out some of my landscape photos. I used many apps to create these pieces.
While exploring the investigation surrounding ‘Constructed Landscapes’ I got to work with different apps, cameras, and the dark room. One of the apps I used was photoshop, within this app I could turn the photos black and white. I could also change the threshold, to do this I had to change the photo in many ways. For example, I had to change it into black and white, press image scroll down to adjustments and then press threshold. This changes the photo not completely but also makes it look like a dot-to-dot photo. I was able to choose how much of the photo I wanted and how much white I wanted. This was helpful because there were so many options. I gave myself the time to do this too many photos.
When I finished converting these photos, I then found a template on InDesign. The one I found was called ‘zine’ and this is what led me to my final piece.
