Introduction
This year we have to work differently because there is a world virus spreading called COVID-19.
COVID-19 has made huge changes throughout the world. Such as wearing masks in the corridors of school, having to line up before and after lessons.Year 9 are in the worst spot there is no shelter, no seats, and we are in a cage. It's closed in, furthest away from everything. Having to wear badges, following teachers everywhere you go. Even in shops having limitations of how many people can go in and you have to wear a mask unless you are exempt.
We can deal with all of this either way. 1.We can get angry, frustrated, and do nothing about it or. 2.We could use the restrictions to make us more creative.
Smaller restrictions can help us be more creative because we have less to look at. Artists are good at solving problems because they are always thinking creatively, there mind never stops. Artists are always thinking of what they are going to do next. Make Do And Mend means you need to make a new and mend the old.

ChoicesSometimes artist don't want to just make art. But other times they want to create art by using rules. Artists like John Baldessari created a list of rules for his class of young school students. There is also Sol LeWit who created instructions for making temporary wall drawings.
Every time we take a photograph we make choices. For example:
What would it be like to have some of these choices made for you? |
Take a picture of a clockIn this homework we made instructions for each other. The instruction i got was to "take a picture of a clock from a low angle".

Marcel Duchamp & the Readymade
The Most Famous Painting In The World
When Marcel Duchamp decided to take a piece of art and make it his own, he chose the world's most iconic image Leonardo's 'Mona Lisa', adding a few scribbles of pencil. Leonardo's painting is of a woman in a dress sitting down. It is so famous because it is so valuable. It ended up getting stolen twice. Duchamp has added a title 'L.H.O.O.Q.' and has also added a moustache. 'L.H.O.O.Q' when pronounced in French stands for 'she's got a hot ass '.

Leonardo’s panting is of a woman in a dress sitting down. It is so famous because it is so valuable. It got stollen 2 times. He has added a statement of L.H.O.O.Q. and added a moustache. The title L.H.O.O.Q. Means She’s got a hot ass. Because people thought it was a man in disguise. It is something already made and he has just added to it and made it his own. It is so revolutionary because it didn’t have to be original and you could now use someone else’s art. You could add or take away something and it then would be your own.
Kensuke koike
This is some of Kensuke's work. For his work he gets photos and changes them into his own. He cuts them out and then put's those piece's of the picture in other spots, or takes that part of the picture and puts it on another picture. Kensuke's work is loved by many. I am studying him because he is making other people's piece's of photography in to his own. Which anyone can do. In my photography class we made our own pictures like this mine are displayed down below.
My First Readymade experiment
Evaluation
WWW: What went well for me in the experiment is that with the first photo I made it look like he had eyes on his head which is what I was aiming for. Which shows I got what I wanted out of it .
EBI: It would be even better if on the second picture I took a picture of it going through the pasta maker because then you will be able to see the whole process. Or if I took a video.

My second readymade experiment
Evaluation 2
WWW: I think I got all the perfect times to take the photos, I have improved from last time because I got all the steps.
EBI: It would be even better if I got if from different angles when taking the photos and if I changed the background.

Hannah Höch photocollage analysis
In this photo I can see a woman with a light bulb head, BMW car plates, a random floating hand holding a pocket watch, a wig, parts that look like they have come from bike's and a man's head with a replaced weird looking eye. The part that strikes the most importance for me is the woman with the light bulb head. I think the woman has a light bulb head because in those days' women were used and not allowed to help with the “hard work”. The other types of pictures in this collage are car and bike parts.
I think they have used bike and car parts because the artist wants to show that women are also be capable of making and building cars. They are not just able to cook and do the washing. I think the tittle goes well with the collage because it is about pretty girls/women as well as that being able to do a “man's job”! This proves a point that women are not just pretty and made for the kitchen. If I were to rename this piece of art I would either name it "believe me" or "I'm not an object".
The three adjectives I would choose to describe this picture are:
1) Bold- though it is only a small collage it says a lot.
2) Ingenious- it is created with cleverness to speak.
3) Unusual- it is different for example you don't see a girl with a lightbulb head everyday.
I would like to ask the artist the following questions:
1) What made you want to make a collage instead of speaking to the public?
2) Why did you decide this was the best way to provide a speech?
3) What made you want to create a speech of this?

Matt Lipps

|
Matt Lipps is a artist that works with photography. He refers to his work as being "alongside photography." He works with photos that photographers like me have taken and cuts them out. He cuts card in to that shape, sticks it on the back and makes a stand for the photo he sticks the on the back so the photo then stands with only support of a card stand.
My work inspired by Matt Lipps
In this piece of work I got some pictures, cut them out, mounted them on card, made stands and photographed them against against a plain background.
Hannah Hughes
Hannah Hughes is an artist working with in the artistry of: collage's, sculpture, constructed photography and moving image. She went to the university of Brighton in 1997 and since has been exhibited in the uk. Her work has been put in magazine's.
This is one of her pieces of work.
In this photo we can see stones stood together. I think she took a photo of the stones then cut it out and put a different background on it. For this work she had to make sure the stone's would not fall and would need and she would need to be optimistic. The 3 words I would use to describe this photo are:
|
3 questions I would ask the artist :
- What gave you the idea to take this photo?
- How did you get the stones to stand up?
- Did u change the background?
This is some of her work
Tabletop sculpture
In this piece of homework we had to make a sculpture out of random objects that we could find. For this pice of art i got paper and scrunched it up. Then i put a pice of coloured paper in front of it.
Collaborative Instruction-based photo collage
In this task we had to take 5 images and do different things to them and swap them with others. Then put the ones we ended up with, together and create our own piece of work. I started off with 5 images and ended up using 10 different pictures.
Collaborative (Physical) Collage InstructionsYou will need a pair of scissors, a glue stick, a camera phone, a piece of A3 cartridge paper and a magazine (containing interesting photos).
- Cut or tear out 5 pages from your magazine. Choose pages with interesting images.
- Make a pile of these 5 pages on your desk.
- Take the top page and cut a hole in it (Note: it doesn't have to be perfect).
- Pass this cut out image to your neighbour (the person sitting nearest to you in class).
- Put the page with the hole in it at the bottom of your pile.
- Take the (new) top page and tear it in half. Pass one half to your neighbour (the same one as before) and put the other half at the bottom of your pile.
- Take the (new) top page and cut out a shape (Note: you could cut round an object or simply cut a random shape of your own choosing).
- Keep the cut-out shape, putting it at the bottom of your pile, and pass the page that remains to someone 3 places away (Note: make sure you don't end up with your own page).
- Take the (new) top page and tear a strip from the (top or bottom) edge. Keep the strip and pass the remaining page to someone else in the room.
- Place the A3 sheet of cartridge paper in front of you (portrait format).
- Without altering them, arrange the pieces of paper from your pile on the A3 sheet to create a pleasing collage. Carefully photograph your first arrangement.
- Again, without altering them, repeat this process, re-arranging the various elements on the A3 sheet until you are happy with the results. Photograph carefully.
- You may now swap 1 or 2 elements with your neighbour. Make a new arrangement and photograph carefully.
- You may now adapt the pieces in any way you like - cutting, tearing etc. Make a new collage, this time sticking them to the A3 sheet of cartridge paper.
- Photograph your finished collage carefully.

Abstract event
Prison Photography
I think prison authorities want prisoners to have access to art work shops because they still need to be able to create. Benefits for inmates taking photo's is so they can see photographs to see and remember the outside world. The challenges a photographer may have to face is they have to be really creative because they have lots of restrictions for example they might have to try and bring the imaginative side out of the prisoners. Also it can be really dirty and small, there are bars you cant get passed, there are lots of locked doors you have to have permission. They have not got great cameras and there phones get taken off them. It can make them go insane so the photography can make them see the other side, the side of beauty and reconstruction of something that seems dull but can be made in to something better. He works with teenagers I think for teenagers to be locked up it can be very intimidating. I think it causes a very big change in there lives. It can be very self isolating. I think for them to be better they have to see older people demonstrate how to be better. They do deserve a second chance because they are only young and it can be a whirl wind of being trapped with big older people in a limited space. Preparation for the outside world and a new perspective of the prison. He is exchanging an idea of what the world would look like in a small space so they can imagine what it would be like outside of the imprisonment. He gives the inmates single use camera, which is a camera only used once a limited amount of photos. It is an analogue camera. Also u can not see what you are taking a photo of. I think he chooses to use this camera because he wants them to imagine what they look like. He wants the clocks ticking inside there heads. Klavdij Sluban thinks nothing is exciting/ interesting because it becomes something. You can take a good picture of any subject. What makes the picture good is lighting. And there is no wright or wrong camera there is only the good eye for a good photo. Which also an out of focus photo can be good. Even a photo that crops a person in half can be good because you can use your imagination to see what the other half of that person looks like. Say you had a picture of a person but they don't have a head it would still be good because you can replace the head. You can replace the head with anything but it is important to plan what you are going to replace the head with. The students gain an imagination it is important to have an imagination. Inmates need skills and jobs to look after themselves when they leave prison. This can help them have a good idea for a job. To help imagine what the big world is like. Your imagination is a big thing in photography. Your imagination is as big as you choose it to be. Creativity to me is having the eye and the imagination to create something that only you can see and no one else can see until you share your creativity.
These photos are taken from 'Nicolo Digirogis' book "Prison Photography" a group of photos taken by inmates in Bolzano, Italy. Through out the course Digirogis planed to teach the inmates photography which included how to make pictures but also how to include the genres. The teachers and inmates were faced with challenge's because of the strict limitations. However Digirogis managed to bring the creative side out of the inmates and get an amazing 137 pictures out of it.
